Strength and Failure of Self-Piercing Riveted Aluminum and Steel Sheet Joints: Multi-axial Experiments and Modeling

چکیده

The mechanical failure of self-piercing rivet (SPR) joints connecting seven series aluminum and high strength steel sheets is investigated, both numerically experimentally. joint mechanisms are characterized for a total four distinct loading modes, including the lap-shear, cross-tension, inclined cross tension coach peel. For analysis underlying influential parameters in each case, designs with equal sheet thickness head diameters considered. highest values obtained lap-shear all types, while interlock observed to pair increased cross-tension values. Moreover, mode which energy absorbed directly relates type. Depending on material combination be joined, either or coach-peel cases yielded absorption. experimental results indicate that hardness bottom have favorable impact associated deformation response. lowest employed (H4) was proven sufficient prevent types employed, despite substantial equivalent plastic strains developed it. Furthermore, interlocks were noted primarily affect lap shear mode, inducing significant damage upon fracture, response other remain practically insensitive magnitude.

Fatigue strength evaluation of self-piercing riveted cold rolled steel joints under mixed mode loading conditions

Fatigue strength of cross-shaped specimens of SPR joints made of SPCC was evaluated at load angles of 0°, 45°, and 90°. For the static strength at load angles of 0°, 45°, and 90°, the maximum loads were determined to be 4890N, 1969N, and 1611N, respectively. Regarding for the relationship between the load amplitude and the number of cycles (Nf), the results were 014 . 0 3 . 2209 − = f amp N P ,...

Fretting wear in self-piercing riveted aluminium alloy sheet

Fretting wear in aluminium alloy AA5754 joined by self-pierce riveting (SPR), a relatively new fastening technique increasingly used in vehicle structures, has been investigated in this paper. Surface damages have been induced when a joint experienced a sinusoidal cyclic tension-tension load. Various degradation zones have been characterised in the contact surfaces between the aluminium sheets,...
